Apple are having a hard time over in China, which is ironic considering that production of the iPad actually takes place there. More retailers in Chinese cities are being forced by authorities to remove the iPad from their shelves, all due to a legal battle between Proview Technology and Apple Inc. over trademark issues.
Reuters reports that two major shopping malls in Shanghai’s Xujiahui district have stopped ordering iPads, whilst cities such as Xuzhou in Jiangsu province and Qingdao in Shandong province have asked retailers to remove iPads from shelves, says www.yicai.com, the website of finance-focused Chinese newspaper Diyi Caijing Daily.
Proview Technology (Shenzhen) Co Ltd, a unit of Proview International Holdings, owns the trademark for iPad in China, and asked asked authorities to remove the iPads from the shelves in over 30 cities. Amazon in China have also reported to have stopped online iPad sales, but according to a company executive, they’ve stopped doing so because of a “supply shortage” and is not directly related to the trademark lawsuit.
