How Much Does it Cost?
The Moshi Vertex 2 are available right now from Moshi on Amazon. They’re priced at just £59.95 here in the UK. In the US they’re $59.99 but that’s before TAX. For that kind of money, I can’t think of a better set of in-ear headphones, I really can’t. Short of spending up to around £150 for a set of quad-driver earbuds, you’ll be hard pushed to find something that sounds better for less.
Overview
It was after me reviewing some much more expensive headphones recently that a few other brands starting reaching out. With that in mind, Moshi are going up against the likes of 1More, who make bloody fantastic headphones. However, they’re hardly cheap, and Moshi is much less than half the price. Are they half the performance? Absolutely not, for such a reasonable price they’re leaps and bounds above most standard headphones. They’re better than the “premium” ones that often come bundled with modern smartphones.
Build Quality
Moshi has done a fantastic job for this aspect. They have the look and feel of a much more expensive product. The driver housing is gorgeous and while the steel housing does make them heavy, they didn’t feel like they were a burden or want to fall out my ears even once. Of course, that steel housing makes for a tight driver mount, with no noise leaking and great noise suppression. This means your eardrums get some really focused sound that’s no bad thing. The thin cables looked worrying, but they’re very strong and well made; a good core and braiding go a long way.
Sound
If you like music with bold and well-defined bass, then you’ll love what these offer. It’s not a boosted bass, it’s just a tight sound with a deep response. It really brings out the detail of your music, movies and games. They sound like a good set of bookshelf speakers with a quality subwoofer; a rare quality for in-ear headphones. I found pushing a slight EQ to boost the extreme ends of the treble adds some air to the sound. Doing so gives music bigger soundscape. However, it’s not essential and the stock setup will knock your socks off, regardless of your music preferences.
Should I Buy Them?
Honestly, if you can find better headphones for the same money or less, let me know. I don’t think you will, and while there are other brands out there that have just as good products in this price range, the Vortex 2 can compete with the best all day long. You get a quality set of headphones, that are well made, and come with the added value for on-cable controls, extra earbuds, a gold-plated jack, and a handy silicone storage unit. Very highly recommended!
