Motorola slashes Xoom Tablet prices!

Clearly in reaction to how well it is not selling, Motorola has been forced to lower the price of its 32GB WiFi Xoom tablet from $599 to $499, this is clear admittance that they weren’t competing with the other Android tablet makers.

While Samsung, Asus and Acer are putting up a good fight over the Android market, they are all struggling to match the Apple iPad sales. Even when the Android tablets might in fact give better value for money.

The move from Motorola comes after rival Asustek Computer launched its entry-level Eee Pad Transformer tablet PC into the US market (back in May) for just $399 and this seems to be selling. Whereas Acer is likely to be forced to lower prices if it is to match its goal to ship 2.5 million tablets in 2011, current figures reckon that they might have only shipped 300,000 units so far this year.

More problems for these firms are going to be caused when the inevitable iPad 3 release starts looming and if rumours are true, that might not be too far away. This will once again force the other tablet manufacturers to rethink their pricing strategy.

The manufacturers know that this is one of the largest and fastest growing markets and as such there is a lot of money to be paid, as well as the fact that Apple is proof that customers are willing to pay a premium for a good product. For those reasons, they priced their tablets, which are equivalent to the Apple iPad just slightly lower than the iPad 2’s latest figures. Unfortunately for them, it seems the iPad and especially Apple is already starting to get a strangle-hold on the Tablet market forcing everyone else to cut their prices just to, in some cases, break even on Tablet sales.

Can anyone compete with Apple?
