Are you hyped for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024? I’m not a big player of flight sims, but when there’s a new one out, I do enjoy a good spin or two, largely because they’re often the pinnacle of PC gaming technology, and 2024’s edition looks set to be no exception.
The new version looks set to take things to the next level, with an overhauled world modelling, 3D ground map, and a plethora of environment improvements. Not that the landscape was dull in the last release, far from it. However, this new version shows some incredible improvements in the last four years.
AI-flown planes will be more detailed than ever, flight details, global ship traffic, heck, even every oil rig in the world has been mapped complete with their helipads. Every glider airport and helipad in the world is said to be in here, and some half a million tall obstacles such as towers, turbines, masts, cooling towers, and antennae.
There will be new actives, pre-flight checklists, airports will have passengers moving around that you can see through the windows, and they’ll be visible boarding planes. In other words, everything has been dialled up to 11.
An improved physics simulation is now included, including improvements to things like cargo weight simulation. Graphics are overall just better, including ray-traced ground shadows, simulated cirrus clouds, new lighting and atmospheric scattering are all here.
