Today MSI has announced a new Gen 5 SSD, the SPATIUM M580 FROZR which comes with a properly chonky cooler to keep it under control and also silent without the need for a tiny little fan.
The SPATIUM M580 FROZR is a PCIe Gen 5 SSD which is capable of reaching read speeds of up to 14.6 GB/s and write speeds of up to 12.7 GB/s which is up to 2 times faster than current PCIe 4.0 SSDs. These high speeds shave valuable time on data access for professionals and content creators, but whilst MSI mentions gaming, I don’t think Gen 5 holds any value for gamers right now. It’s speeds are boosted by a DRAM cache buffer and SLC cache, plus its storage is reinforced with LPDC ECC and E2E Data Protection for the 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities that it offers.
Complementing its high speeds is the huge tower heatsink cooler which comes pre-mounted onto the SSD. It features three heat pipes and a plethora of aluminium fins for maximum surface area and airflow passthrough. In testing this cooler can reduce operating temperatures by up to 20 degrees Celsius allowing the SSD to maintain its performance for longer.
The MSI SPATIUM M580 FROZR will be available in capacities of 1TB, 2TB and 4TB, more information is available at the product page.
