MSI has presented quite a few products at CeBIT, one of those include the latest entries in the Lightning graphics card series with the company putting its new HD 7970 based product out on display.
In the new features found on this card is a larger custom PCB with power being supplied through 14+2-phase digital VRM, Military Class III components like Hi-c CAPs, SFC and Solid CAPs. This edition also incorporates a backplate and a new feature called the Reactor Core. The first details reveal the Reactor Core to be an add-on device that plugs in the backplate cutout on the back of the card and holds additional tantalum capacitors, few blue LEDs and should provide additional stability for extreme overclocking.
On the new card also comes voltage monitoring headers and DIP switches for voltage unlocking. Specification wise, the GPU is still a Tahiti XT based Radeon HD 7970 card with 32 Compute Units or simply 2048 stream processors and 3GB of GDDR5 memory. MSI hasn’t said much about the clocks, but it’s expected to see this card come out with a nice factory overclock.
Cooling is taken care of by the 4th edition of the company’s famous Twin Frozr cooler, now featuring five copper heatpipes and two 90mm fans with Dust Removal technology.
Sadly, no release date and price have been announced.
