MSI announced that they are continuing their close cooperation with ASmedia. MSI will also be the first to introduce motherboards with the brand new ASM3124 USB 3.1 controller chip.
The new ASM3124 doesn’t just deliver the fastest USB 3.1 performance. It also reduces the power consumption by as much as 50%. When compared with a Gen3 x1 connected controller, the AS3124 is able to deliver double the performance. Your drives might not get faster by themselves, as the drives are the limitation, but they’ll be able to deliver better performance when used simultaneously. Okay, they can actually get faster too with the use of MSI’s X-Boost feature.
The current Lightning ASMedia ASM2142 USB 3.1 Gen2 controller already offers the fastest USB 3.1 performance in the market, but the new generation Lightning ASMedia controller chip enhances the performance as well as the energy efficiency.
“In comparison with ASM 2142 USB controller, the new ASM 3142 ultra-high-speed USB controller made a remarkable enhancement in data transfer speeds with extraordinary energy efficiency, reducing 50% of power consumption. ASMedia Technology Inc. is continuously devoted to the latest & greatest technology. Working closely with top motherboard vendor MSI allows us not only to create perfect hardware design, but also to optimize the driver at the same time. ASMedia and MSI continue to set new standards in data transfer speeds over USB,” said Chewei Lin, President of ASMedia.
With such an impressive performance, it’s only natural for the chip to come out on a top-of-the-line boards first. The upcoming MSU Z270 GODLIKE GAMING motherboard will be the first to feature the ASMedia ASM3142 USB 3.1 controller. Other high-end desktop models will receive the new controller chip too.
MSI’s X-Boost software can improve your USB performance further. It can boost the USB performance up to 5% for any device, and that’s on top of an already fast controller. X-Boost auto detects fast USB devices and enables performance enhancements immediately. It allows the system to deliver over 1100MB/s through USB, and that’s impressive.
