MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8RE Laptop Review

Synthetic Benchmarks
3DMark Firestrike
For a combined scoring of CPU and GPU performance, the MSI GE63 Raider is in some lofty company. That is, of course, in no small part to the 8th generation i7 processor which I certainly carry this score significantly higher than over laptops we have reviewed with the Nvidia 1060 graphics card. Considering though that this isn’t far below the ZOTAC Magnus Zbox, which is a barebones system with a Nvidia 1070 (albeit a 1st generation Ryzen 7), it speaks of a strong performance here.
Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme
On a scoring based solely on GPU performance, this is exactly where we would expect it to be. Sitting in that group of around 6 which all have Nvidia 1060 graphics cards, this one certainly did better than others. I do, however, think that we have established a level of performance expected from this GPU and as long as nothing falls below it, all is well.
PCMark 10
The CPU scoring in PCMark 10 is undoubtedly higher than we anticipated, but that is in no small part due to the excellent 8th Generation Intel i7 processor which comes with this laptop. The margins in this area are slim, but this is, at the very least, towards the middle pack of the some of the strongest processor performances we have seen.
WPrime 32M and 1024M
Out of all the tests we conducted, these were undoubtedly the exceptional figures and for a very good reason. As the chart below indicates, this is one of the best laptops we have found for performance under the WPrime test. It is almost on par with that fantastic Chillblast Ultimate laptop, which I can assure you (at least at the time) cost significantly more.
Cinebench R15
We are again astounded as to the results of this test. In Cinebench, which tests single and multicore performance, the figures are very impressive, and concerning single core, these are some of the best results we have ever seen. I ran the test a few extra times to be satisfied and can confirm all results were similar; this is a major testament to the design and efficiency of the 8th Generation Intel processors.
Handbrake MP4 to MKV Conversion 4K
It’s more good news for the MSI GE63 Raider which is again one of the best performers we have seen. Outside of specific build video rendering systems, for a 4K conversion, 43 frames per second is a highly impressive number, and the figures do not lie. This laptop did well and well beyond our expectations. Admittedly, you don’t buy a gaming laptop mainly for video rendering. If it is something you dabble with, however, these figures are likely going to be music to your ears.
