MSI GTX 1080 GAMING Z Revealed

When MSI launched their slew of custom GTX 1080 graphics cards, their top model was the GAMING X. That card featured some of the highest clocks among the custom variants from the AIB partners and the expectation was that it would be the top MSI GTX 1080 until the Lightning came out. Now, it appears that MSI has readied an even more premium GAMING variant for the GTX 1080.

Dubbed the GAMING Z, the card offers even higher clock speeds and improved aesthetics. The GAMING Z clocks in at 1771 MHz base and 1911 MHz boost for the GPU which is about 63/64 Mhz faster than the GAMING X. While this isn’t that much faster, it should provide a slight performance bump. There will also be slower Gaming and Silent Modes as well as with all MSI cards. No information is available yet on memory overclocks.

Aesthetically, the card looks about the same as the GAMING X, with the same dual fan red cooler. However, there is the important addition of RGB lighting for the backplate. This fits in with the trend we’ve been seeing with RGB lighting everywhere. There is no word yet on pricing but hopefully, it won’t cost too much for the RGB lighting and few extra Mhz.
