A Closer Look
The MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI Motherboard looks stunning with a focus on all-black hardware and fittings, with just a few highlights of neon yellow/green that give it a really stylish and modern aesthetic.
Of course, all that armour isn’t just for aesthetics, as it forms large heatsinks that flank the CPU to ensure the VRM can be kept running at optimal temperatures. There’s a powerful 16+1+1+1 Duel Rail Power System with 90A SPS, so pushing the latest flagship Intel CPUs shouldn’t be an issue, and again, those large heatsinks are certainly going to help with that. While this is far from the most extreme VRM we’ve seen, it should be more than enough for your typical high-end gaming PC build.
On the lower half, there are four heatsinks in total, three covering the M.2 mounts that are tucked between the PCIe slots, and a large chipset heatsink to the right of that.
The M.2 slots feature the new EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II design, allowing for quick and easy tool-free fitting of the heatsink and drives. There’s also an EZ PCIe Release Switch just above the right corner of the chipset heatsinks. The top M.2 mount is Gen5, with three more Gen4 slots below that, giving you plenty of storage options.
While not the most port-packed rear I/O it’s nice to see that it features a pair of THUNDERBOLT4 ports, as well as an additional 10 GbE Type-C, plus there’s both WiFi7 and 5 GbE LAN for fast networking, and some BIOS buttons for quick and easy flashing or clearing of the CMOS.
