MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI Motherboard Review

I’ve used a lot of Tomahawk motherboards over the years, as they often strike a sweet spot for features and value, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how the new MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk WIFI motherboard holds up that reputation! It comes equipped with Intel’s latest Z890 chipset and support for the flagship 15th Gen Intel Core Ultra processors, which are technically the 1st generation of the new Core Ultra series, so have a new naming and numbering scheme as a result of this.

This ATX motherboard represents a competitive blend of performance and value, delivering an impressive feature set tailored for gamers who demand a performance edge without breaking the bank. Built around the Z890 chipset, this motherboard unlocks access to the latest advancements in connectivity, including PCIe 5.0 support for lightning-fast data transfer speeds with next-generation graphics cards and SSDs, and support for flagship DDR5 memory kits, which are needed to get the best performance out of the latest Core Ultra series CPUs.

MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI

MSI has armed the MAG Z890 Tomahawk WIFI with a 16+1+1 Duet Rail Power System, ensuring a stable and reliable CPU power delivery and overclocking, even when pushing its limits. An enhanced thermal design, featuring extended heatsinks and heat pipes, should effectively dissipate heat generated by the motherboard, maintaining optimal temperatures for consistent performance and longevity. This commitment to thermal efficiency extends to the M.2 slots, which are equipped with M.2 Shield Frozr to prevent thermal throttling and ensure peak SSD performance.

Beyond its robust power delivery and cooling, the MAG Z890 Tomahawk WIFI offers ample connectivity options. Four DDR5 memory slots support up to 256GB of RAM, so gamers can fully take advantage of the increased bandwidth and speed offered by DDR5. Storage options are plentiful, with three M.2 slots (PCIe 5.0 slot, Lightning Gen 5 x4 M.2) providing ample space for high-speed NVMe SSDs. Network connectivity is handled by a 5G LAN and the latest Wi-Fi 7, ensuring a fast and reliable connection for online gaming.
