The MSI Modern AM242TP 11M is available in black or a silver/white finish, so you can find one that suits your workspace aesthetic easily enough. I think both colours look stunning, as that modern design really does look fantastic. It’s an ultra-slim bezel monitor design, that looks really neat and tidy.
The display is a 23.8″ IPS Grade Panel with LED Backlight running at 1920×1080 with MSI Anti-Flicker technology. It’s a nice-looking panel too, with good colours and black levels. It’s meant for business, and MSI advertises this PC to online content creators and people running creative web stores and the like, so it’s good that the panel is up to scratch.
It’s got a good anti-glare and brightness level too, so it can cope in a well-lit room easily enough, and it has some built-in low blue light modes that are great at nighttime. However, I still prefer the night mode that’s built into Windows 10/11 myself.
The touch screen works well enough, and it can register up to 10 points. Personally, I have no use for this in a home setting. However, if this was being used as a marketing tool or point of sale system, I can see how this would be very useful. Again, my needs are not the same as others, so I can’t really say how much use you’ll get from this. Then again, doodling a smiley face with your finger is good fun.
There’s a built-in webcam up on the top, perfect for all those Zoom meetings you can’t be arsed attending, and a privacy slider for when you don’t want to risk the internet seeing you picking your nose. There’s a built-in microphone too, so really you don’t need to hook anything up. There are 2 x 2.5W speakers built-in. There’s a headphone/microphone jack on the PC too, should you need it though.
One cool feature of this system is that it has an easily upgradable storage bay. The design allows you to slide it out, change the drive, then slide it back in. It’s a 2.5″ SATA III bay, so dropping in a slim HDD or an SSD is easy enough. If you open the back of the system, you can also change the M.2 drive too, but that’s less user-friendly for the less knowledgeable consumer.
Networking is decent, and while all versions come with RJ45 Gigabit LAN, there are versions with the Intel 9462 AC WiFi and a more premium solution with the latest Intel AX201 AX WiFi 6, so make sure you order the one that suits your requirements.
Connectivity is good enough, with 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A. That’s likely all you’ll need too, just to hook up a keyboard, mouse, headset, maybe a controller or hub of some sort. As you can see, some ports are on the rear, some on the side for easy access.
There’s HDMI in and HDMI out, which is interesting. You can actually use this purely as a monitor without booting the built-in computer. This is great if you’re hooking up a console, laptop, or anything else really. However, there’s also HDMI out, so you can actually use a secondary display too.
The ergonomics are excellent too, with a nice weighted base that keeps things nice and stable. You can easily adjust the height with one hand. Here’s the stand at its lowest setting.
And here it is at its highest. As you can see, there’s a good range of tilt and angle adjustment too.
Overall, this is a very pleasant-looking system. It’s just so simple and clean too, and while it may not have the power of a big gaming PC, the benefits of the whole system being built into the monitor are certainly welcome, as it takes up so little space! Just plug it in, set up Windows, and you’re ready to rock. One nice thing, it now offers Windows 11 at boot too, so you have that option.
