MSI Oculux NXG253R eSports Gaming Monitor Review

A Closer Look

From the front, the MSI Oculux NXG253R looks just like any other gaming monitor, a little smaller perhaps, but for a 1080p panel, it’s a good size for this number of pixels.

There’s a slim enough bezel on the sides and top, so a multiple monitor configuration with these isn’t out of reach of those with a fat wallet.

There’s a thicker bezel at the bottom, which has a bit of a curved line on it. There’s not really any branding though, it’s kept distraction-free, and for a competitive gaming monitor, that makes absolute sense.

The stand is pretty significant, especially for a monitor of this size. However, that again likely has something to do with eSports, and having a stand that keeps this monitor perfect stable seems like a sound advantage to me.

The stand offers a rotating base, so you can just turn the panel without having to drag the weighted base around. Also, the monitor can be tilted -5°~20° to suit your needs.

Plus, there’s a 130mm travel on the height adjustment too.

Around the Back

From the side, you’ll notice this monitor is a bit of a chunky beast. The 360Hz panel requires a thick heatsink and plenty of ventilation, so they’ve fattened it up so that it doesn’t get too warm even after those longer gaming sessions.

Around the back, this is a very sexy monitor indeed. There’s a dragon on one side and the Nvidia/MSI branding on the other. Keep in mind, for eSports, this side will likely be facing a crowd, so the aesthetics are somewhat important.

There’s a small analogue control here, allowing you to tinker with the OSD.
