MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD – The Ultimate PC Gaming Monitor?

The latest entry in the Forza franchise, Forza Motorsport, has proven to be one of the best PC driving experiences in recent years. No obnoxious music, no rampant cut-scenes full of cool people saying cool things, just lots of tracks, lots of cars, and some rather stunning graphics thanks to the inclusion of Ray Tracing, RTAO, and resolution scaling support. I set the frame rate to unlocked, the resolution to 4K and fixed the resolution to the full 3840 x 2160 by using DLAA mode DLSS.

• Ultra + DLAA
• Ultra Profile + DLSS Quality
• High Profile + DLAA

Not that there’s much to tinker with as performance using the default profiles for Ultra and High is pretty fantastic. Albeit, this is a recent improvement, as the game was riddled with performance bugs at launch, but these are pretty much all gone now; DLSS modes are no longer a blurry mess, for example.

Using the absolutely maxed out, ray-traced, DLAA and Ultra profile, I managed a very respectable 113.7 FPS average, there were some low 1% scores, but these seemed largely to loading issues in the benchmark and were considerably smoother in actual gameplay.

Without a doubt, this is a fantastic-looking game, and while the MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM can certainly deliver the high frame rates I desire, it’s the MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD that really puts it all together. I was able to get 120-150 FPS pretty consistently, even with ray tracing enabled, so that means a silky smooth gameplay experience, making the racing feel very responsive. Plus, while it doesn’t really come through in a compressed jpeg, the colours and detail are just amazing on this 4K panel.
