Finally, we have Starfield, and this is a pretty demanding game to max out, especially when it comes to higher resolutions and not just higher refresh rates. Of course, with the MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD, I’d like to achieve both. I used the ultra profile but customised this by ensuring upscaling was off at first, film grain was off, and motion blur was off to give me the best visual fidelity.
Even in the game’s more demanding areas, I chose to land at New Atlantis and walk diagonally through the city, which is a hot spot for CPU and GPU load in this game. However, performance holds up really well throughout, but was surprisingly a little more stable without any scaling, keeping a steady 70-80 FPS throughout, which for 4K maxed is really not bad at all for a demanding area.
However, using the beta DLSS quality mode, the gains speak for themselves, with a much higher 1% percentile and average FPS overall, the MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X is a bit of a beast really. You can get this to around 140 FPS + by dropping the quality, but the overall pace of the gameplay, and the addition of G-Sync really left this feeling like a bit of a sweet spot for the game anyway.
Plus, it’s abundantly clear that the game looks stunning at these settings, and I wasn’t ready to compromise on that part of the experience.
