TemperaturesMeasuring temperatures is all about being consistent, therefore we keep a steady eye on monitoring the ambient room temperature to make sure that it stays the same. While this is constantly being monitored, we measure the idle temperature of the processor using HWMonitor over a 15 minute period. Once this has been recorded, we set Prime95 into motion for 15 minutes and record the results again. We repeat the same on any comparison products we may be testing with it.
The Alpenfohn Matterhorn cooler we were using isn’t a particularly great CPU cooler. We were relatively pleased with the fairly low idle temperatures, but we were even more pleased that overclocking didn’t increase idle temperatures. This is thanks in large to the 2600K very effectively decreasing its multiplier all the way down to 16x to stay cool and low powered. It also shows that the board has some great power saving and temperature reducing features.
The load temperature at stock speed is completely fine, but once overclocked, the temperature is unfortunately higher than we would like to see. This isn’t a problem with the board though.
