MSI RTX 3080 & RTX 3090 SUPRIM X Graphics Card Review

How Much Does It Cost?

The MSI RTX 3080 SUPRIM X 10G is available from today with an MSRP of £809.99, while the MSI RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24G has an MSRP of £1659.99. That’s actually really interesting because the ASUS RTX 3080 STRIX OC costs £899.99 and then £1699.99 for the RTX 3090. Considering the boost is higher than the MSI card, but clearly, MSI makes it up in other areas. Despite costing less, both cards proved they can match or beat anything else. The only reason you would pay the ROG tax on that one is if you simply prefer that brand and aesthetic.

Overview

Well, make no mistake, these are both extremely fast cards. I want to start with the RTX 3090 SUPRIM X24G though. It’s one of the fastest cards on the market today, make no mistake. However, it’s not THAT much faster than the RTX 3080 when it comes to gaming, at least not relative to the price increase. This card is for gamers with deep pockets who want the absolute best. However, it’s really for workstations, rendering, game development, that kind of thing. If you need a crapload of VRAM for development, it’s perfect. Beyond that, it’s a bit much for your typical PC gaming setup.

SUPREMELY SUPRIM

Their RTX 3080 is a beast, and while it does feature a slightly lower price and boost clock than the ASUS card, it’s clear that it hasn’t slowed it down one bit. This card is properly quick, and I think MSI owe it all to their latest cooler design. The card runs hard and fast without compromising or throttling, and even then, those large fans are pretty quiet. It’s certainly one of the best RTX 3080’s out there right now. The only question is will there be an MSI Lightening version too, will that sit below or above this card? Who knows!

Should I Buy One?

If you’re on the market for a high-end workstation and development card, an RTX 3090 will certainly tick all the right boxes for you. However, the exceptionally good quality cooler on the SUPRIM is certainly worthy of your attention. You get that very same cooler on the tamer RTX 3080 SUPRIM too, meaning that RTX 3080 chipset can really sit at maximum all day long, making it a truly remarkable graphics card and it comes in at a very competitive price too.
