Final Thoughts
Price
The MSI Vigor GK40 Gaming Keyboard is available now from many major retailers. The price is around £60 at most of them. However, a little Google-Fu will find you it for a smidge under £50, which is great value for money. Google a little more; you can even see it paired with an MSI Clutch GM10 Gaming Mouse for only £60. Of course, it always pays to shop around!
Overview
There are so many great gaming keyboards on the market, both membrane and mechanical. Which one is right for you is very subjective, and everyone has their preference when it comes to switch type, there’s no right or wrong. That being said, I love my mechanical switches, but I also regularly use a few membrane keyboards in the office. The “membrane mechanical” switches don’t feel quite like an MX-Red, but they’re noticeably different from bubble membrane switches and work great for gaming.
Build Quality
The durability of this keyboard is pretty decent, not record-breaking, but hardly poor either. It’s a clamshell plastic mould, giving it a uni-body like quality that makes it strong and light. I wouldn’t go throwing it around the office, but it’ll stand up to a few years of gaming abuse easily enough.
RGB and More
This is a fairly standard keyboard regarding features, but it’s not all left stock. Small additions such as the multimedia controls, 20-key anti-ghosting, and built-in RGB lighting control go a long way to providing a more premium experience. The quality of the RGB lighting is pretty slick too, and it’s nice to see Mystic Light supported further down the MSI gaming range.
Should I Buy One
There are plenty of similar keyboards on the market, but they all offer reasonably identical features and prices to the GK40. What it comes down to is, do you like the MSI brand, do you want Mystic Light, and do you like the design? I honestly can’t fault the performance on the GK40, and if you can find it closer to £50 than £60 like I did, I think it’s a great deal for gamers.
