BIOS and Overclocking

Anyone who’s used an MSI motherboard before will feel right at home here. The layout of Click Bios 5 is nice and clean, everything you need is in an obvious place and the EZ Mode makes it beginner friendly, with all the delicate settings tucked out of sight.

Advanced mode is exactly that, and features all the usual power and frequency settings you would need for advanced overclocking.

There’s not much in the way of new features on this BIOS, although that may change after launch when we see more updates applied. The last feature I feel worth pointing out is the very easy to use Hardware Monitor, which is great for those overclocking who want to dial up their fan profiles, or even those who just want their system to run a little quieter.

Overclocking

The Ryzen 7 1800X can reach 4GHz using its own built-in boost features, and even 4.1GHz with XFR on the X370 motherboard chipset, but if you want to dial in your own fixed settings, you can thankfully do that on this motherboard with ease. The power delivery on this board is rock solid, and with a bump up to 1.488v on the CPU, and 1.15 on the NB voltage, it held stable at 4.1Ghz throughout all our tests. The chipset would POST at 4.2GHz, but failed benchmarks due to heat, so those wanting to go even further may want to invest in an even bigger AIO cooler or custom loop. However you choose to overclock, it couldn’t be easier on this motherboard and chipset, and the XPOWER will certainly help you get the most out of your AM4 CPU.
