Intel’s Haswell for desktops is just around the corner and MSI are gearing up for the release by revealing some sneak previews of their Z77 XPower motherboard. The latest teaser reveals a glowing yellow “X” logo on both sides of the motherboard VRM heatsink. These heatsinks cover MSI’s Military Class IV components which include Super Ferrite Chokes, black solid state capacitors and 16 VRM power phases.
MSI are also pushing their OC Genie 4 with the XPower. The OC Genie 4 feature allows users to adjust between gaming and default mode via the onboard DIP switch. In gaming mode the motherboard automatically adjusts to provide users with the best performance needed for gaming while in default mode it probably keeps the system at a modest level of performance to conserve power.
As you may have spotted there are additional motherboard buttons, some of which probably are a power button, reset button, BCLK adjust buttons and RAM adjustment buttons. There are also voltage read-off points or V-Check points allowing you to grab a whole bunch of RAM and CPU voltages.
As mentioned above the MSI Z87 XPower motherboard features the full MSI Military Class 4 feature set which is displayed above. You can see a whole bunch of high quality chokes and capacitors scattered all around the LGA 1150 socket.
Other key features worthy of MSI’s marketing material include a Clear CMOS button, the V-Check points, a debug LED, multi-BIOS II and Easy Button 3.
MSI’s release date and price are yet to be announced, but it seems likely it will be ready to launch alongside Intel’s Haswell processors in early June. What are your thoughts on MSI’s XPower Z87 motherboard?
