Leaked information reveals that Nvidia are preparing to launch a new graphics card, the GTX 1030, onto the market in the next few months.
The Nvidia 1030 is being touted by some as Nvidia’s answer to the recent AMD RX 5xx series. Whilst information is pending confirmation, are Nvidia looking to compete with AMD over the low-mid graphics card market?
The unconfirmed report has revealed the following tech details of the Nvidia 1030.
The Nvidia 1030 is shaping up to be a decent entry-level graphics card. Utilising a very basic implementation of the Pascal technology, Nvidia would seemingly be looking towards the ironic territory of AMD, mid-lower tier graphics cards. With a decent core and memory clock speed this is shaping up to be a nice budget card (who would have thought such an utterance would be credited to team green). Some people have even touted that this card is Nvidia’s answer to the RX 5xx.
A better question perhaps is ‘why are you asking something so silly?’ or ‘sir, have you been drinking this evening?’.
There are those, who shall remain nameless, who have suggested that the Nvidia 1030 is the ‘answer to the rx 5xx’. It should be made crystal clear that the author of this article finds such an assertion to be ridiculous. The clear competitor to the AMD RX 5xx is the Nvidia 1060. The Nvidia 1030 is looking to be an excellent entry-level graphics card and I personally find no reason to extend the hyperbole beyond this. The maths simply does not add up.
Because the launch price is going to be circa $79.00. That is amazingly inexpensive for something utilising good technology and giving impressive performance figures. The Nvidia 1030 may provide an excellent option for those who want to game on a budget. An area AMD has dominated for quite a while.
If this is anything close to the specification revealed, I would endorse anyone looking to get into PC gaming on a budget to consider buying this card with a summer 2017 release. However, for those who can stretch a little further on pricing, I’d still have to recommend the AMD RX 5xx0. Find our review for the Sapphire RX 580 here.
