Multiversus is Back and Its Now Just Ok

When MultiVersus was initially released over a year ago, it didn’t capture my attention, and after a few hours of gameplay, I grew bored and abandoned it. Like many others, I quickly forgot about its existence. The game seemed to fade into obscurity, with its player base dwindling to a mere few hundred. I wasn’t even aware that the game had been taken offline for further development.

What’s Changed

After disappearing for a year with a few beta tests, the game is back, and honestly, I have no idea what’s changed besides the tutorial. Some of the things that did change that people liked have even been removed. These include the ability to play any character in offline mode, a free-for-all with items mode, leaderboards, and end-of-match stats.

The removal of end-of-match stats is a particularly key feature missing for me, as in in-game modes like 2v2s, it’s especially hard to keep track of who’s did what in the game.

Another big thing that was removed form the game beta was progressive battle pass XP. This means that aside from the challenges, if you’ve completed them, there’s no other way to progress in the battle pass, leaving you with nothing to do until more challenges are released.

Multiverses Comeback?

Despite all of this, Multiversus has returned to an astronomical number of players, hitting over 100,000. However, the game has already begun to lose steam, falling to a 24-hour peak of 79,024. While this is still a respectable amount, it shows a clear decline in player base which is not good considering that its only been out for a short time.

Now, although I don’t personally care for the game, I do still want it to succeed, as it’s clear there is a good game in there somewhere amidst all the poor decisions and grindy battle passes. I was genuinely excited when the game was first announced and showcased.
