ACE’s Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. To meet the requirements, the museum had to demonstrate that it complies with standards relating to how the museum is governed and managed, how it provides services and facilities for users of and visitors to the museum, and how it cares for and manages the collections.
The Accreditation award emphasises that the local community has a remarkable archive on their doorstep whilst local, national and international visitors have an excellent insight into the history of computing from the abacus to the most recent designs.
Curator Simon Webb said “This is exciting and rewarding news. Accreditation is the culmination of years of work by our volunteers to bring the museum up to professional standards, and to ensure that we provide experiences for our visitors that are both enjoyable and educational.”
The museum is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, and for group visits by arrangement.
