Mushkin had SATA drives with them to CES 2018, but that’s not all. The company also brought plenty of new NVMe drives with them and one of them is the Helix-L. It is categorized as an Extreme Performance drive and it does come with some nice performance ratings.
The new Muskin Helix-L drive comes in a standard M.2 2280 form factor for maximum compatibility. There will be small versions with just 240GB capacity as well as larger versions with up to 1TB capacity.
Performance wise, we’re talking up to 2.4 GB/s sequential read performance and 1.7 GB/s write performance. The random throughput is rated at 280K IOPS when reading and 250K IOPS when writing. Now, those are some great figures and it explains why the Helix-L is categorized as it is.
At the heart of the drive beats one of Silicon Motion’s SM2263XT controller which is coupled with 3D TLC NAND. The drive is NVMe 1.3 rated, has a 3-year warranty, and 1.5million hours mean time before failure.
We currently don’t know either the expected price nor when it will be available, but we’ll be sure to keep a finger on the pulse and let you know when we know more.
