Mushkin Launches Reactor Armor 3D and Triactor 3D SSDs

From the very first SSDs, planar NAND has always been used. In recent years, the transition to 3D or vertical NAND has been underway. Samsung was the first to jump in with their 850 Pro and 850 EVO drives. 3D NAND has now reached the mainstream as the rest of the NAND industry has also started their transition. As part of an update to their lineup, Mushkin has released the Reactor Armor 3D and Triactor 3D SSDs with 3-year warranties.

As you might expect from the name, the drives ae meant to supplement the current Reactor and Triactor lineups with 3D NAND versions. Just like the drives out already, the Reactor Armor features MLC while the Triactor goes with slower TLC, both 3D NAND of course. Mushkin has decided to go with the single core 4 channel SM2258 controller for both units. The drives also feature a DRAM cache as well as SLC caching.

The Reactor Armor features capacities from 240 GB to 1920 GB while the Triactor goes from 256 GB to 2 TB. Due to the overprovisioning and MLC, the Reactor Armor offers better performance. Both drives feature 560 MB/s read while writes are up to 525 MB/s and 520 MB/s for the Reactor Armor and Triactor respectively. Random 4K read writes are 90K and 80k IOPS respectively. The differences between the drives are masked by the SLC cache and the numbers are for the fastest drive in each lineup respectively. No word on pricing and availability have been revealed.
