Mushkin Redline 32GB (16GBx2) 6000MHz DDR5 Memory Review

A few weeks back, we brought you a review of the Mushkin Redline 5600 MHz memory kit, and it was a pretty decent set of memory too, offering great performance and competitive prices with a slick and understated aesthetic. Well, how could we possibly improve on that? Simple, now we have the even faster 6000 MHz kit, and I'm betting it will be even better, that is if it all works as it should. Alas, Muskin knows their stuff and have always delivered great products in the past, so let's jump in and see what's on offer. Mushkin Redline The MRF5U600DDDM16GX2 memory kit, better known as the Mushkin Redline to its friends, is a 32GB kit that comes as 2 x 16GB DDR5 UDIMMs. They're tuned to run at PC5-6000 with impressive tight timings of 36-36-36-76, so the Redline should be quite a tasty upgrade from the previous Mushkin kit we tested. With their hand-tested modules and lifetime warranty, it's easy to take confidence in what Mushkin have to offer. If you like to overclock and squeeze as much performance from your PC as possible, then Redline memory gives you that extra edge you need to dominate without breaking a sweat." - Mushkin A Closer Look When it comes to the design, the Mushkin Redline is extremely understated, but that's OK, as in today's RGB-dominated world, something more toned down is certainly appreciated. The modules are also low-profile, so compatibility with SFF builds and larger CPU coolers should be excellent. There is a black-on-black logo, but you have to get the light to hit it just right to really see it clearly. Again, just a very muted and understated design. The only standout aspects of the memory are the bare aluminium strip along the bottom, which is milled from the same piece as the black, this is just raised and then machine cut into to give it that shiny look. There's the Stiletto design on the spine, giving it a little flair to look at but also increasing surface area and overall airflow. Oh and the sticker, but really, that's about it. How We Test Here at eTeknix, we endeavour to disclose vital information regarding the benchmarking process so that readers can quantify the results and attempt to replicate them using their hardware. When it comes to our benchmarks in our reviews, the benchmarks are pretty self-explanatory although there are a few exceptions. Remember that your choice of graphics card, CPU, the silicon lottery, and other factors can yield different numbers, and there's always a margin for error when using any software. We encourage you to not just look at how one product compares to any other, but how it compares to your own. If you're looking to build a new system, you should benchmark your current PC using our benchmarks and settings where possible. You should then look at the percentage improvement from your current hardware to the hardware we tested to give you a ballpark figure of how much an upgrade this will provide you with. We put the RAM kit that is being tested into our test system and benchmark it at its first XMP profile using a variety of benchmarks and tests. Once complete, we apply a reasonable overclock where possible and benchmark the same software with the overclocked values. The CPU clock speed is set to default for both runs. AIDA64 Right away, we can see the leap from 5600 to 6000 MHz and those tighter timings is having a good impact on the overall performance, read speeds alone went from 88113 MB/s to a much faster 95177 MB/s, with similar increases in write and copy speeds too. The latency was broadly the same, coming in at 65.6, I would have expected lower, but still, this is well within acceptable levels rather than anything drastically good or bad. Calculation Performance This is where this memory kit really shines, delivering our absolutely faster Super Pi Mod 1.9 time, crushing all other scores. The second lowest here too, ironically, the 5600 MHz Mushkin kit was faster. However, it goes to show that speed isn't everything, and the overall timings of the 5600 kit just jam well with this test. However, both are super fast, so well done Mushkin. Rendering Performance Again, Mushkin absolutely killing it here, scoring a staggering 27805 in R23, pushing it significantly ahead of all rivals. Both the Mushkin kits dominate the Corona test too, so again, just a big thumbs up here. FutureMark Performance When it came to FireStrike Ultra, it was a little lower than expected, even after a few retests, but still not a bad result overall. However, things were much better in Time Spy Extreme, giving us our second-highest score. The gaming performance is pretty decent, overall, with a couple of lower results here and there, but largely they're either somewhere in the middle or very high, giving this kit one of the best overall results of any of the kits we've tested. So, if you are planning on using this for gaming memory, you should be very happy with it. Overclocking At 6000 MHz on the XMP, these are already overclocked pretty high, albeit factory overclocked and binned to ensure they can deliver these numbers. So with that in mind, I wasn't able to push it much higher, getting it up to 6200 MHz. However, as you can see, it actually had a pretty noticeable impact on the performance, pushing read, write and copy speeds higher at the cost of frantically higher latency. How Much Does It Cost? It can be pretty tricky to track down memory prices, as finding the exact model, size, speed and latency is a bit hit and miss from one retailer to another. However, this kit is available on Amazon with a list price of £235, but was temporarily out of stock at the time of writing. However I doubt that is the true retail price, as most DDR5 kits of similar specification show as around £200+ these days, but with very heavy discounts bringing them to £120-150, but Amazon isn't showing this for Mushkin due to them being out of stock right now. Overview Mushkin has a solid reputation with us here at eTeknix, as I've always been very happy with the level of quality and performance they offer, and usually at very competitive prices too. It's hard to nail that last detail with the stock being sold out right now, but I have no reason to think it wouldn't still be true. The overall build quality is very good, and Mushkin has chosen to keep things relatively simple here, so there are really fewer things that could go wrong. There's no RGB either, which may be a good or a bad thing for you, but personally, I'm more than happy with it. Plus, the aluminium heatspreaders are clearly doing a good job, but they're also nicely low-profile, greatly improving their overall compatibility. When it comes to the overall performance, there's no doubt about it, this is a very fast set of memory. With speeds of 6000 MHz on the XMP profile and good timings of 36-36-36-76, it's no wonder we saw many of the highest scores in quite a few benchmarks and competitive results in all other benchmarks. If you're building a high-end gaming PC or workstation, it's well suited to either task. While overclocking did see a performance increase, it came at the cost of latency, so good for gaming, but may hamper calculation tasks. Honestly, I'd be more than happy to leave them at stock settings, as it seems to be the best overall tradeoff. Should I Buy Them? Mushkin has one of the most understated-looking sets of DDR5 memory on the market, with a low-profile heatsink and matte black design and a subtle bit of aluminium on the bottom edge, meaning they'll blend into your PC build with little effort. However, when it comes to performance, they come out swinging, highly recommended!
