Mushkin Striker 480GB Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

At the time of writing, the Mushkin Striker 480GB SATA3 SSD can be found at NewEgg for $179.99, at CCL Online for £132.82, or through Geizhals starting at €175.47.

Conclusion

We saw a great performance from Mushkin’s 480GB Striker SSD in this review, both before and after the conditioning. The drive is built with a great controller and quality MLC NAND, and it shows in the results. The drive can easily compete with the drives from other manufacturers on all levels.

In some tests, the Striker SSD took the first place and in others it came in midway or last, but all the results have one thing in common. They are so close to each other that the differences barely matter. The drive easily performed sequential operations with up to 555MB/s when reading and up to 530MB/s when writing. The random performance was equally good with read operations close to 100K IOPS and write operations close to 90K IOPS.

Feature wise the drive has everything you’ll want from basics such as SMART and TRIM over wear leveling, garbage collection, and error correction code as well as DevSleep. DevSleep is particularly useful for notebook users and seeing that this is a 7mm SSD, it will fit well into most laptops, notebooks, and ultrabooks. The drive in itself is very simple and doesn’t sport much design wise. The sticker on the top has the few relevant information and other than that it’s a plain black SSD drive.

The drive is backed by a good warranty, assembled in the US, and comes at a very fair and competitive price, so there’s no doubt that it would be a great purchase and one that will last you for a long time to come.

Pros

  • Great performance
  • All the features you’ll want: ECC, SMART, TRIM, wear leveling, DevSleep
  • Cheap price per GB

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • No accessories

“Mushkin’s 480GB Striker SSD is packed with great features, has a fast and steady performance, and a more than fair price.”

Thank you Mushkin for providing us with this sample.
