Final Thoughts

Price

The stock of many DDR4 modules is terrible at the moment. This means it’s incredibly difficult to find accurate pricing information. However, keep an eye out at your retail of choice. You can also check the official Mushkin store on Amazon. We expect the price to be around £120-130.

Overview

Time and time again we’ve seen great memory kits from Mushkin and today is no exception. While the Redline Frostbyte may have been the slowest memory kit we’ve tested in terms of raw MHz, it was far from the actual slowest in terms of real-world performance. Marketing departments love big numbers, and it’s understandable that people would see a 3000 MHz or above memory kit as better. However, at just 2800 MHz, the Redline is more than fast enough to give great results. The tighter timings of 17-17-17-38 are a big benefit too, and have easily helped this kit perform as well as it did.

When it comes to overclocking, the Redline was very easy to work with. It hit 3000 MHz with minimal fuss and that gave it a small performance boost at the cost of a tiny increase in the latency. You’ll likely see the most benefit from doing so in gaming. It may only be a small boost, but it’s still a free upgrade regardless.

The build quality is very nice overall. The aluminium heat spreaders look great and I love the soft red finish. It’s a shame they use a green PCB, but it’s hardly a deal breaker. They’re still going to look aesthetically pleasing once installed, and that’s what matters.

Pros

  • Stylish heat spreader design
  • Easy to overclock
  • Excellent timings
  • Outperforms more expensive/faster kits

Cons

  • Limited availability
  • Green PCB

“With great performance that can go head to head with faster and more expensive kits, finding a set of Redline is worthy of your time for any system build.
