Modern Warfare Remastered Standalone Launching for $40—Original Maps Cost Extra

Activision changed their mind and is releasing the Modern Warfare Remastered edition as a stand alone game after all. The title is launching first on the PS4 on June 27 and it will cost $40. The original game is the 4th installment of the Call of Duty franchise and launched in 2007. The new Modern Warfare Remastered updates the textures for 4K UHD resolution support and also increases the model polygon count. The remastered game actually first came out in November 2016, but it was only bundled with the purchase of CoD: Infinite Warfare. Since this is Activision, the new standalone “let’s not leave money on the table” edition did not come as a surprise. The original remaster was only also available if gamers shelled out extra for the Legacy, Digital Deluxe and Legacy Pro Editions.
Speaking of paying extra, four of the most popular classic maps for Modern Warfare will also cost extra as a DLC. The Variety Map Pack includes the HD remastered versions of Killhouse, Broadcast, Creek and Chinatown maps. It also includes 10 rare supply drops when purchased. If you bought the higher-tier Infinite Warfare packages, these maps are free. The standalone Modern Warfare Remastered comes with 16 other base multiplayer maps otherwise.
PC and Xbox Release Dates
Sony’s PlayStation 4 gets the first exclusive release for a month before the PC or the Xbox version. This puts the launch date on July 20 for the same $40 price tag.
