Negative Reception for G2A in Reddit AMA

There was a negative reception for G2A yesterday when they hosted an AMA on Reddit. G2A is no stranger to negativity, but this direct approach to try and answer some key questions was brutal, yet the folks at G2A held their own.

The bad feelings towards G2A are mostly due to the accusations that the digital keys they sell, are in fact stolen, or bought using stolen bank accounts. One such question reads “How do you guys deal with the accusations of stolen/gray market keys?” To this, G2A replied;

“We want and do anything possible to make our marketplace as secure as possible (#possible). We deal with all authorities and follow all protocols out there.”

To clarify further, they explained the problem they faced in how to identify said stolen keys, they said;

“If a developer comes to us, and tells us upfront ‘hey listen these keys were stolen from us, here is the proof, here is the list of keys stolen from us, please don’t allow anyone to sell them/please make sure they don’t appear on your marketplace’.”

“we will not allow anyone to sell any of those keys.”

This seems to be a good way to sort out the legitimate and stolen keys, but relies heavily on the developers approaching G2A and giving them enough data to act upon it. However, it seems the problems arise when they are either not informed of stolen keys, or they are told about them and not given any data to act upon.

In another question, on the same topic, they stated;

“In some situations, if a key was not reported to us as stolen and we weren’t told it was blacklisted or shown any proof, then there is little we can do.”

They went on to compare this to another scenario, which made perfect sense of the problems they faced, they said;

“if you want to buy a TV on eBay, and oh no! it’s stolen, but no one ever reported it as stolen, how would eBay know to take the auction down if the seller checks out?”

As far as the AMA goes, it was brave of them to take this on, they would have known they would have faced multiple questions being thrown at them, with most of them being negative. However, they did their best to answer them, and although to me their answers are well thought through, explained clearly and do a good job at answering the questions, you have to feel that no matter what they say, there will always be a negative reception for them.
