The Netatmo Welcome is available directly from the Netatmo website for 199 EUR, that’s not especially cheap, but when you consider the compact design and ease of use, it’s certainly a competitive product.
Overview
I love what Netatmo have created, partly because it’s a great and fun product to use, but because they’ve given me a solution to a problem I didn’t have, but that’s still a nice addition to the household regardless. I’ll let people make their own minds up about trust issues, home security, spying on your family when they come home, as everyone’s needs and personal opinions are going to differ quite a bit. What I will talk about is the tech, as those in need of some additional home/family security will find a lot to love about this camera.
The first thing that stands out is how compact and sleek the unit is. I’ve seen lots of internet connected cameras, but they typically look pretty hardcore, not the sort of thing you would want inside your house, as they can be a bit of an eyesore. The Welcome is exactly that, welcoming. It looks nice, it’s easy to install, as you simply pop it on a table or shelve, plug it and it works; it’s certainly going to appeal to the less technically minded consumer.
The mobile app is faultless, very intuitive to use and comes with a plain and simple setup guide to help you get it up and running. Being able to login from your computer or mobile device whenever you want to view activity logs, video clips and more is a great features, but it’s the notification system that steals the show. My phone beeped when my son came home, it beeped again when my girlfriend came home, but most importantly, it beeped my phone when it saw someone it didn’t recognize. Sure it was only a courier dropping a parcel off for me, but had that been someone breaking in, I could have seen the live feed, download it to my phone and call the police; very cool indeed.
Pros
Cons
“The Netatmo Welcome is a great addition to your home security. It’s not as hardcore as a full CCTV system, but it’s more comprehensive than a simple webcam setup. Facial recognition, mobile access, a simple setup and a great design make this a fantastic all round product.”
