NetFlix Acquires Millarworld, Creator of Kingsman and Kick-Ass
Ron Perillo / 7 years ago
Streaming giant NetFlix is announcing their first acquisition involving the purchase to the character rights of Millarworld. The brain-child of Scottish comicbook writer Mark Millar, Millarworld has a unique twist on classic comic book stories. Often mixing dark humour with extreme violence as seen on their properties-turned-films such as Kick-Ass, Wanted and Kingsman. Mark Millar himself is well-known in the comic book world having worked for both Marvel and DC before launching his own line of creator-owned characters. Millar also has an MBE for services to film and literature on the Queen’s Honours Birthday list.
The Good News
Millarworld has plenty of characters in its stable. Some are more original than others. This gives NetFlix a large pool of unique, quirky, fun and downright crazy properties which easily lends itself to a movie or TV series adaptation. Teasing the announcement via Twitter, NetFlix showed a video crawl of various Millarworld properties now under their wing including:
- American Jesus
- Jupiter’s Circle
- Jupiter’s Legacy
- Huck
- Chrononauts
- Empress
- Reborn
- MPH
- Superior
- Wanted
- Super Crooks
- Starlight
- Nemesis

The Bad News
Despite the acquisition, it does not include the rights to Kingsman and Kick-Ass. 20th Century Fox owns the distribution rights to Kingsman. It is currently set to release the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle in September. The Kick Ass franchise has two movie adaptations so far and is under a Universal Pictures distribution deal.
However, the preview video does show Wanted which was originally adapted to film starring Angelina Jolie back in 2008. So this most likely means that it is part of the NetFlix acquisition.
