Netflix blames Amazon for Xmas Eve outage

Netflix subscribers in Canada, Latin America and U.S. suffered an outage during Christmas eve , which saw users not being able to stream any content available. This affected outage 27 million out of the 30 million worldwide subscribers.

The unavailability happened because Amazon Web Services’ cloud computer center in Virginia suffered downtime at 12.30 PM PST on Monday and was only able to fully restore it before 8 AM the next day.

In the past, Reddit and Foursquare were also affected by Amazon Web Services’ outage.

Netflix’s spokesman refused to comment if this would affect their future relationship and their contract with Amazon, but they are giving gifts on Netflix or even getting Netflix capable devices as a token of apology to its subscribers due to the downtime.
