More new and original programming on the way!
Netflix is certainly doing well for themselves at the moment. It’s been a while since they successfully buried Blockbuster Video and despite currently having a pretty nice hold on the market, they’re not sitting back.
With over 104 million subscribers, they are certainly not struggling for business. If you consider that each of those pay at least £5 a month in subscription charges, it doesn’t take a degree in math to understand the company is heading in the right direction.
We recently reported how a new Assassins Creed animated series was in production. Hopefully, one which will be better than the film.
In recent years, it has also been great to see Netflix re-investing money in original programming. Shows such as Stranger Things, Bojack Horseman (which incidentally has just been renewed for another season), Better Call Saul and The Crown have really helped push the subscription service forward. Particularly those such as the latter which are specifically produced by Netflix themselves.
Netflix Originals
We did of course recently report how Netflix had just announced plans to up the price. The price rise was said to be specifically to fund new programming such as this. I daresay, however, also for to make them a little more money. The increases, however, will be less bitter with this announcement of 80 new shows.
In a report via NextPowerUp, some major Hollywood celebrities will be expected to appear in these shows, which will be a combination of films and new series.
The new shows will Netflix $6-7 billion dollars. While this does sound like a high amount, don’t forget those subscriptions. In addition, Netflix often does turn a tidy profit going down this road. How? by selling the rights on to other distributors, generally a season or 3 down the road.
Some of the upcoming projects include Bright, starring Will Smith and The Irishman starring Robert DeNiro. The Irishman does genuinely look to be pretty amazing. This hopefully means that DeNiro has finished attempting to destroy his legacy. We can only hope!
Are you looking forward to the new programs? Do you enjoy what you currently have or has the price increase got you planning to leave? Let us know in the comments!
