Netflix Has Removed Its Cheapest Basic Ad-Free Tier In The UK and US

Netflix has quietly removed the Basic £9.99 ad-free tier from the platform forcing people to spend more or sit through ads.
Netflix Removes Basic Tier
As reported by IGN, the Basic tier which was the cheapest ad-free tier on offer, has been removed with users no longer able to join the plan and forced to either go for the cheaper £6.99 tier with ads or pay for the standard £10.99 a month or premium at £15.99 a month. This move whilst unannounced can’t be unexpected as the company pulled the plan in Canada last month. I’m not sure how Netflix still has users with these price points as £6.99 for ads is just not worth it at all and neither is the premium costs especially when you consider other subscriptions as well it all adds up.
Netflix Profits Still Rising
Despite all these unlikeable decisions, the userbase is still using the platform with a previous letter to shareholders explaining that despite the controversial paid sharing feature, the results were positive with the Q1’23 revenue and global memberships increasing compared to the previous quarter. Clearly, the unsubscribe from Netflix crowd isn’t having much of an effect despite the price hikes.
I subscribed to Netflix last month to binge Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and El Camino but that’s about as far as I got before unsubscribing. Can’t imagine the cost of having Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and all the other subscriptions combined tacking on to my monthly bill.
