Netflix Introduces New ‘Play Something’ Shuffle Feature

Let me paint a scenario for you. It’s Friday night, the wife fancies a takeaway and suggests that we watch something on Netflix. I say ‘sounds good, go find something for us to watch’. I return 30 minutes later, food in hand, to find that my wife is still poking through the programs attempting to find something she thinks we’ll both enjoy. So the short version is, more often than not, we have the option of either continuing to scan while our dinner gets cold or just giving up and watching something on regular TV.

If such a situation sounds familiar to you, then there is some excellent news! Following an official Twitter post, Netflix has confirmed the introduction of a new feature that should, all going well, look to automatically give you a few quick streaming options to pick from!

Netflix Introduces ‘Play Something’

So, what does the new feature do specifically? Well, it basically gives you three options you didn’t have before. You can choose to pick up from something you started but did not finish, it may pick a film/show that you may wish to rewatch (if it’s been a while), or, based on your prior viewing history, it will pick something new that it thinks might be up your alley.

The short version is that it’s trying to give you some nice and quick options to quickly dive into something without scanning through around a dozen different menus.

What Do We Think?

It’s a neat idea and one I certainly expect to see a lot of people using. Well, when they actually discover it and what it does. As such, if you want to try this out for yourself, when you next go to log into your account, you should see a quick and easy ‘Play Something’ prompt that’ll quickly lead you to your three recommendations!
