Netflix is expected to launch its new ad-supported subscription tier at some point in early 2023. While it is still unclear exactly how much they plan to charge for this, it undoubtedly sounds like an excellent idea to try and tempt some of the people who left the platform back with a lower monthly charge at the ‘cost’ of simply having to endure some advert breaks.
Following a report via Engadget, however, information has appeared online suggesting, somewhat contradictorily, that not all Netflix shows on the ad-supported subscription tier will actually mandate the playing of advertisements!
According to the source, Netflix might seemingly be debating whether to pick and choose exactly what programming may have advertising segments. While it may still include an initial block of adverts at the beginning of a show/film, it’s rumoured that Netflix’s original productions (such as The Witcher, Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, etc.) will not include intermittant advert breaks during the stream.
Additionally, children’s programming may be (somewhat commendably I might add) entirely exempt from adverts of any description.
Overall, it’s a nice touch that would certainly make this new subscription tier a lot more, if not more appealing, then at least significantly more user-friendly/less-intrusive.
