We’ve have had a look at the hardware; now it is time to look at the software.

NETGEAR SX10 Dashboard

The first thing you’ll see once you’re logged in to your new SX10 is the dashboard. You get all the vital information and a few settings at first glance. To the left, you’ll see the connections and the system information to the right. At the bottom is the port status for the ten available ports.

The information parts will switch as you click them, or take you to the appropriate settings pages.

All the individual ports at the bottom can be expanded to check up on the details. This includes all the available settings for each. You can also hit the edit button to change them from this page without having to navigate anywhere else.

Changing a ports settings is easy. Hit the edit button, and you get a view as below. Set a name for the port to easily identify the connected system, limit the speeds, or enable the flow control. You can also control each ports individual LED from here. Turn it off or change the various colours. It’s all possible. You can also adjust the brightness in case you want to dim the whole thing, but still, have it turned on.

The menu to switch to other parts of the interface is at the top left corner while you can log out or reboot the switch from the top right corner. The user interface is also optimised to work well with mobile devices as there is a good chance that a lot of people will use those to quickly change some settings. Perhaps while your main rig is busy in some gaming sessions.

Gaming Settings

Speaking of gaming, let’s switch to that page as the first. Now, it isn’t really gaming specific, but it’s where you’ll want to go when making sure that your gaming system has the best possible connection. After all, who wants lags, delays, or low packet priorities when in the middle of an important match.

The top of the page allows you to monitor the inbound and outbound performance. All ports traffic will be shown here, and you can change the shown interval between 5, 30, 60, or 600 minutes.

Below the monitoring-fields are the port limitation and prioritisation. What that’s for is kind of self-explanatory. The priority has seven levels from lowest to highest.
