Netgear Prosafe WNDAP360 Wireless-N Access Point Review

One of the first things you will note when taking the system out of the box is its size. The access point measures 25cm across both top to bottom and side to side and 5.5cm in depth. Even though it is quite a large unit, it is very light considering at only 878g, which is critical for ceiling mounted operations. The front casing is made of a gloss white plastic; which looks very nice yet throws us a challenge when trying to take photos for the review on our white backdrop, hence the change of backing for this review.

Towards the bottom we find five LEDs to indicate system status, LAN activity, LAN status and 2.4GHz /5GHz activity separately.

Turning the access point over, we find the back half of the case is made out a metallic grey plastic with plenty of ventilation holes to be found. To either side of the case we find a total of four slots which the wall and ceiling plate latches onto to hole the system in place.

Also on the back is a sticker with the default access credentials both for system admin purposes and wireless security.

On the top of the system we find two reverse SMA antenna connectors for 2.4GHz operations, a system reset button, RJ45 console port, Gigabit Ethernet with IEEE 802.3af PoE (Power over Ethernet) support, a Kensington lock point and a DC power jack. Depending on the installation type, the system can be powered either via PoE (PoE capable switch or injector required) or directly from the mains via the included power adaptor. The system auto senses which power source is available with no user intervention required.

Last of all we have the wall mount which comes pre attached to the access point. As it is shown, to four mounting holes towards either corner are for wall mounting and for ceiling mounting, firstly the metal ceiling rail clamp is attached, then the mount above is screwed to the bracket via the four holes towards the centre of the mount. The grey cover at the top is removable and acts as a cable cover once everything is connected.
