NETGEAR expands their GS300 series “Business Essentials” Gigabit Ethernet unmanaged switches with a new 48-port switch (GS348). At the same time, the company also adds a PoE capable 5-port switch (GS305P) to the series which already has 5-port, 8-port, 8-port PoE, 16-port, and 24-port options.
While it is easy to install multiple switches and stack them, that method runs the risk of bottlenecks on the uplink ports. The easy fix for that is to get a single switch with as many ports as possible and that is where this new 48-port switch comes into play.
The GS348 is perfect for areas that need a lot of devices connected but where you don’t need a lot of control over each individual network device. Why pay for and bother with a lot of configuration options that aren’t needed.
The 48-port switch offers 96 Gbps switching capability and thereby it provides the full duplex experience for every connected device and without creating new bottlenecks in your network.
With a fan-less design, the GS348 Switch supports operation in noise-sensitive environments. This could be classrooms, conference rooms, open space offices, and healthcare centres. Despite the fan-less design, the GS348 switch is ideal for small network cabinets. It comes with a 50-degrees operating temperature rating and that should be enough.
Netgear added a simple Quality of Service (QoS) system to the switch. It is pre-configured to automatically prioritise voice and video over data packets.
The new NETGEAR GS305P 5-Port switch is an ideal switch for homes, small offices and conference rooms. With its 55.5W PoE power, it can power the growing amount of PoE devices around homes and offices. This could be VoIP phones, wireless access points, security cameras, and IoT devices.
The GS305P Switch has four Gigabit ports supporting PoE. These allow you to use a single wire to provide both electrical power and connectivity for PoE devices. It features a classic and sturdy metal case, a fan-less design, and wall-mounting options.
The GS348 and the GS305P are available now throughout the NETGEAR reseller network. The 48-port GS348 has an MSRP of $299 while the GS305P PoE switch will cost you $64.99.
