For those that have either read my review on the XAVB5201 kit or themselves own one will quickly recognise the plug shown to the left below. This is in this case the injector unit and would plug into a plug near the source (for example a router) and feed data to the power line. The bigger unit to the right is the main attraction this time round and its size is all for a good reason.
Packed into the still compact unit is a wireless-n access point as well as an Ethernet connection on the base – giving flexibility and options of connectivity.
The powerline runs with a backbone link speed of 500Mbps and each end part hosts a 10/100 Ethernet port. The beauty of a powerline is that this kit can easily be integrated into an existing installation to expand it further. In this instance the ‘injector’ portion of the kit could potentially then be used as an additional remote plug.
On the underside of the access point plug, one will note that the Ethernet port this time round features a link LED and below a power switch to turn the plug on/off to save power.
