Netis E1 N300 WiFi Range Extender Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

At the time of writing, the Netis E1 is a somewhat older device and as such the availability is sparse. I found it at Amazon UK for £19.15 and Amazon Germany for €19.51. There is also an E1+ model available that features an LAN port as well as several colours for each model, but those prices variate a little bit.

Conclusion

One of the selling points on the Netis E1 wireless range extender is its small form factor and I also quite like the general egg style of it. It looks and feels great. Sadly the small design also costs some effectiveness. The wireless signal won’t be as strong as it could be with external antennas, which often can be improved even more if they are detachable. The E1 doesn’t offer this, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be used.

The E1 range extender only utilizes the 2.4GHz band with N300 speed. 300 Mbps doesn’t sound like much these day, but it can still be plenty for both HD streaming, gaming, and video calls. We saw in our tests that when placed correctly, the E1 could boost our signal and give a better throughput than we had without it. It also showed us very clearly that the position is important. A wrong placed extender can actually decrease the performance.

I don’t think this will be the go-to range extender for many people, not with those speed limitations and the missing 5GHz band, but when that’s said, it isn’t a bad unit. However, it could be better. The price is also something that looks a bit high for todays other options. But if you get one as a gift or already have one, then it can be quite useful.

Pros

  • Nice design
  • Compact
  • Plug’n’Play with WPS
  • Manual configuration option available

Cons

  • Only N300 2.4GHz 300Mbps
  • Internal antennas
  • Limited enhancements

“If you already have a Netis E1, then it can be useful and has the ability to enhance your wireless performance, but there are better options available on the market by now.”

Thank You Netis for providing us with this sample

    1. I’m not sure what you mean by access it??? The E1 doesn’t even have one (The plus model does, but that’s not the one reviewed here).

  1. I have been using this for about a year not realizing it was causing a drastic decrease in speed. Removed it and it went from 20mb/s to 60mb/s. Not sure why.
