New AMD Radeon Fury GPU Spotted in Drivers

When AMD launched their Radeon 400 series of graphics cards, they changed things up from their normal practice. Instead of launching with their high-end cards per usual, the company instead led with their mainstream Polaris 10 and 11 GPUs. This has left Nvidia to dominate the high-end market with their Pascal units. This is all set to change near the end of this year when the red team finally releases Vega. In a sign that Vega may be arriving, interesting details have popped up in AMD drivers.

In the latest set of Radeon Software drivers, there is a new listing for the Fury series of cards. AMD7300.5 = “AMD Radeon (TM) R9 Fury Series” isn’t currently assigned to any known AMD Fury graphics card, making it appear that the groundwork is being set for Vega. According to the various reports, Vega 10 will lead first and arrive near the end of this year with more launches in early 2017 as well.

Being part of the Fury lineup, the new card is almost guaranteed to be among AMD’s new flagships. Other than Fury, the only other possible name would be the RX 490 but such a card likely wouldn’t be too far off the RX 480 and therefore wouldn’t be too high-end. A fury branding unit also suggests that it would be gaming and consumer oriented rather than the Radeon Pros which are prosumers. Hopefully, there will be more leaks to come and more details to share.
