New Asus External Graphics Card Box Incoming Soon

The ROG XG Station 2, the second iteration of Asus’ external graphics card boxes, which is can house high-end cards from AMD and NVIDIA, is set for release next month. Part of Asus’ Republic of Gamers range, the ROG XG Station 2 can bring the power of desktop graphics cards to laptops via its Thunderbolt 3 port, though the hardware is, for now, only compatible with five Asus laptops from its ROG and Transformer Book series.

The box has an independent 600W 80 Plus Gold PSU which is capable of providing 500W for the enclosed graphics card – Asus says the box can house NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9 and 10 Series cards, or AMD Radeon R9 and RX cards – and 100W for the attached laptop. While we know the external measurements of the XG Station 2, Asus is yet to reveal the maximum size of graphics card it can hold.

The ROG XG Station 2 is set for worldwide release in the first quarter of 2017. Pricing is yet to be announced.
