New custom game options are coming to Overwatch, and it’s about time! The custom game mode is possibly the least used feature of Overwatch, due to it’s lack of depth, there just didn’t seem to be any point other than to brush up your skills or to have a more relaxed game with friends.
Currently available on the PTR are a whole host of new options for people to take a look at, which include;
During the Developer Update YouTube video, Jeff Kaplan gives an example of how the new options could work. He suggested you could have an entire match of Widow’s, with their grappling hook ability with no cooldown time, meaning you’d have a whole match of Widow’s flying through the air, maybe picking up some of those epic in-air-headshot kills.
Maybe you’d like an escort game, with two teams of Junkrats with all of his abilities off cooldown, and a super fast hero ability recharge time, it seems the options they are introducing should finally make custom games a much more attractive feature.
Jeff Kaplan goes into more detail about the various different options that are coming to the game in this video.
These options, along with the server browser option they will also be introducing will add even more game types to the game. This also gives Blizzard a very handy insight into what people want. From this, they will be able to track and monitor popular game setups, unpopular setups, what the preferred cooldown times are for certain abilities, if one hero is preferred in certain types of games, the list of information that will be available to them is endless, which going forward, will mean they are likely to release even more official content updates to suit these trends, or even give them Brawl ideas.
What game modes or features would you like to see brought to Overwatch after these new additions? Is there something else you wish you could do?
