When it comes to classic games everyone has different definitions. It could be something you enjoyed playing back when you were younger, and still play and pick up to enjoy with your friends every now and then. It could be the games that came out when you were born or the start of a series. When it comes to the gaming hall of fame, the criteria is their status amongst players, their influence on gaming as a whole and how long they’ve been around (e.g. are they still being played).
The gaming hall of fame this week welcomed several games picked from a list of 15 finalists, with the US-based museum expanding their collection with six new picks. The games added to the collection this year are older games such as Space Invaders and The Oregon Trail mixed with some more recent The Sims, Grand Theft Auto III, The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Last year the collection added Pong, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros, Tetris, Doom and the World Of Warcraft to their collection, which the museum on show at The Strong museum of play in Rochester, New York. This year’s finalist list included games like the Tomb Raider and the original Pokemon games, all of which will no doubt make an appearance in next years short listing.
