Apple recently released a new beta of iOS 8.2, the next major release of iOS 8. Already people have been delving deep into the OS to see if they can find anything interesting, and indeed they have.

9to5Mac reports on new references to an ‘Apple Watch app’ that is to be used on iPhones to pair the phone with the watch. The reference can be seen in the Bluetooth settings of iOS 8.2.

It’s always been known that the Apple Watch will rely heavily on the iPhone for its activities, with a reference to a dedicated app appearing in an early preview of the watch from last September.

“Apple Watch users will install an Apple Watch app on their iPhone, which will be used to download apps onto the watch as well as likely manage Apple Watch settings. A user’s iPhone is also used to help with computational demands. Apple cleverly pushes a lot of processor needs to the phone in order to preserve Apple Watch battery life.”

The watch is scheduled to be launched in “Early 2015”, with rumours indicating that would be in the next few months.
