It is finally here, just minutes ago Apple officially announced the iPhone 5 at today’s press event. At just 7.6mm thick the new iPhone 5 is 18% thinner and 20% lighter at 112 grams.
The display on the iPhone 5 has been upgraded to have a 326 pixels per inch density across its four inch display. The resolution stands at 1136 by 640 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. According to Apple the new display will also boast 44% better colour saturation and full sRGB rendering.
Moving on from the display, the new iPhone 5 introduces “ultra fast wireless” technology. Supporting GPRS, EDGE, EV-DO, HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA and LTE meaning potentially up to 100mbps in transfer rate through wireless.
In the USA, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon will all support LTE 100mbps wireless connections. In Canada, Rogers, Telus, Bell, Fido, Virgin. In Asia KDDI SoftBan, KT, SK telecom, SmartTone. For those using the iPhone 5 at home there’s also dual band Wi-Fi, 802.11.n at 150mbps across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
