New MGS5 Patch Breaks Majority Of Mod Support
Metal Gear Solid V is hardly a new game, in fact, it’s over 3 years old now. As such, you wouldn’t necessarily expect any new patches for the game. Following an update though, a brand new patch for the game has been released. The patch itself doesn’t do much, but it has far-reaching consequences.
In a report via DSOGaming, the new patch has essentially broken all existing mod support for the game. Yep, at this moment in time, the game (in its up-to-date form) has practically no supported mod content.
Not Uncommon!
It’s isn’t unusual for patches to interfere with the running of mods. Mods are, after all, unsupported user additions to the game. The problem with MGS5 though is that since it’s been out for quite some time, so have the mods. As such, it’s very unlikely that the creators of them will return and work on them again just to update them for the latest version.
Patch Notes
When you see the patch notes, you do kind of wonder why Konami bothered at all.
The notes are (and this is the full official list)
- Fixed an issue when using an Energy Wall while equipped with certain pieces of developed gear.
- Fixed other issues.
Yes, that’s it. For those few minor improvements, Konami has pretty much ruined the modding support for the game. In fairness, that isn’t necessarily their problem, but given how the game has always divided fans (particularly the clearly rushed 2nd-act and no actual ending) I daresay that this update might, ironically, be the last nail in the coffin for this game.
