New MMORPG Coming to Challange World of Warcraft

Tarisland, an upcoming Chinese MMORPG from Tencent, has set its sights high, aiming to rival established MMO giants like World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and The Elder Scrolls Online. The game’s release is set not too far apart from the launch of major expansions for both WoW (The War Within) and FFXIV (Dawntrail), a bold move for an MMORPG.

Tarisland

Tarisland, a Chinese MMORPG developed by Locojoy and Level Infinite, with publishing titam Tencent backing it, is making a bold entrance into the MMO market. While dethroning World of Warcraft may be a lofty goal, the game has the potential to carve out its own niche and stand alongside the most popular MMOs.

The game has enjoyed considerable success during its beta tests and is now set to launch on Friday, June 21st, 2024. In a noteworthy move, the developers have even enlisted the talents of renowned Blizzard composer Russell Brower, known for his work on Diablo 3, Overwatch, and StarCraft.

Tarisland Gameplay

The game itself looks visually appealing, featuring the signature blend of realistic and anime-inspired character art styles often seen in Eastern MMOs. Players will have nine classes to choose from, each with two specializations and a flexible, expansive talent tree system to customize their gameplay experience.

The game also promises an open world filled with puzzles, stories, and “unique experiences beyond traditional questing.” Based on gameplay footage, it appears that considerable effort has been put into the narrative, with many characters featuring fully voice-acted lines.

Finally, the game will feature the classic MMORPG staples of raids and dungeons, which appear to be a central focus throughout the gameplay experience, not just relegated to the endgame. If you are interested in playing the game you can pre-register for the game here.

The game looks pretty good and well-polished but I won’t get my hopes up as doing so, especially with MMOs is a recipe for disappointment.
